Marthalen

Marthalen (5 minutes by car)

The pretty village of Marthalen lies in the heart of the "Zürcher Weinland" (Zurich Wineland) and is famous for its intact village centre and the white-red half-timbered houses. The "Untere" and "Obere Hirschen", the "Alte Wirtshaus" and the "Schützenhaus" are particularly magnificent timber-framed buildings.

Martella, as the village used to be called, was first mentioned in a document in 858 and today comprises the villages of Marthalen and Ellikon am Rhein. The townscape is dominated by the timber-framed houses from the 17th and 18th centuries and is a protected historical village. More than 2 hectares of vineyards are cultivated in Marthalen, in particular Pinot Noir and Riesling-Sylvaner. In addition, one of the most important and largest contiguous oak forests in Switzerland is located on the municipal territory.
